SERVICE OVERVIEW

Mitchell Caverns, within the Mitchell Caverns Natural Preserve, is a trio of solutional limestone caves, located on the east side of the Providence Mountains at an elevation of 4,300 feet (1,300 m), within the Providence Mountains State Recreation Area. It is located in the Mojave Desert, at the north-western end of Essex Road, off of Interstate 40 (Needles Freeway) in San Bernardino County, California. The Caverns temperature is around 73 °F (9 °C) and 41% humidity.

It is accessible by the Park Service (two) guided tours, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Friday thru Sunday (including holiday Mondays). Tickets are “not” sold online. Reservations will be taken by phone only on Mondays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. 15 people per tour.

Directions:
Hwy 62 to Godwin Road, turn left on Godwin. Go 2 miles, then right on Amboy Rd. Go 39.8 miles, then right on National Trails Hwy. Go 6.6 miles, then left on Kelbaker Rd. 11.4 miles, right to merge onto I-40 East, take exit 100 for Essex Road towards Essex (0.4 miles), left on Essex Road (15.9 miles).
